LED Lighting FAQ

Why choose LED lamps, aren't they the most expensive?

LED lamps are more expensive to buy than incandescent and CFL lamps but are more energy efficient for running.  Compared with CFL lamps, they do not contain harmful mercury and do not suffer from the same “warm up” problem.

How much money can I save from my electricity bill?
The annual cost saving depends on your energy tariff, the average number of hours per day the lamp is on and the difference in power between the LED lamp and the bulb you are replacing.  LED lamps last up to 10 times as long as incandescent and 4-5 times as long as fluorescent, there.  For commercial premises which have a labour cost for lamp replacement, this can be considerable
Example:
50W halogen GU10 on for 6 hours per day:     £12.20
7W LED halogen on for 6 hours per day:    £1.70
Where do you manufacture you LEDs?
Like most vendors, our products are manufactured in China – there are over 1000 factories making LED lamps in southern China alone, most are not great quality!  We have 2 main suppliers who only use high quality LED chips from Cree, Samsung & Osram.  We regularly audit our suppliers from our office in Taiwan.

Does it matter which components are in the lamp?
We only use the high-end LED chips from the above vendors as these provide greater efficiency, better colour matching and longer lifetime.  Even if the LED chips last 50,000 hours, other components like the power supply may fail, so we take care of that as well.  The extra cost of using these components is more than compensated by the reduced electricity cost and longer life.

What is warm, neutral and cool white?
LED lamps consist of a blue LED chip coated in a phosphor to change some of the light from blue to yellow and red.  Every chip vendor sorts these LEDs into “bins” each of which have a different hue.  The first LEDs to reach the market were cool white, which most people find too blue.  Warm white is designed to match incandescent lighting.  Neutral white is between the two, a pure white, ideal office or retail lighting.  With cheaper LEDs, you can have a box of 6 lamps each of which has a different shade of white.  We insist our supplier uses a single bin for each of our products, so when you purchase another lamp in 6 months time it will have the same colour as the existing one.

Do you supply products, other than LED lighting?
Ingeniehouse is 100% focussed on LED lighting.  Kaimen Technology is currently working with a large company in Taiwan to develop wireless “connected home”  technology.  We hope to bring these two activities together with some unique products.

How do I dispose of a lamp at its end of life?
LED lamps are covered under the WEEE directive for waste disposal.  You can take them to your local recycling centre or return them to us for disposal.
